What is a Massage?
Massage involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure; stationary or moving or vibration. Massage therapy improves circulation by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to body tissues. It relieves muscle tension and pain, increases flexibility and mobility, and helps clear lactic acid and other waste, which reduces pain and stiffness in muscles and joints. Massage therapy may also be for relaxation purposes through the release of tension and stress in/on the body. Reviva Medical Spa's Massage Therapists are trained to aid in the relief of inflammation, stress, injury, circulation and post surgical lymphatic drainage.
What should I expect during my Massage?
During your massage experience at Jacksonville/Ponte Vedra's leading medical spa you will be welcomed into your massage room where you will undress to your comfort level* as your massage therapist is outside of the room. Our experienced massage therapist will knock on the door before entering to make sure you are ready. The massage therapist will then renter the room and will adjust the face rest, pillows, and "draping" to make sure you are comfortable. You will then communicate with your massage therapist your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle. This is the start of your therapist understanding how and what your body is reacting to from stress, tension, and/or injury. After this brief interaction your relaxing, rejuvenating, and healing massage will begin. During your massage you will be covered at all times and the area the massage therapist is working on will be uncovered. After your service has ended, your massage therapist will exit the room for you to get dressed or back into your robe. We do request that you take your time getting off the table due to the possibility of dizziness.

How will I feel after my massage?
Massage therapy is a very healing treatment when preformed correctly. You will feel instant relief after your treatment with Reviva Medical Spa's experienced and industry leading massage therapists. You may experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After your feeling of relaxation has passed, you will often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, we recommend that you drink plenty of water following your massage.
How often can I receive a Massage?
Your experience will be different from another persons experience; however, the commonality will be that all clients feel relaxed after their treatment. In order to receive lasting results, it is recommended that clients should receive at least one massage per month. However, once every two weeks is ideal. Again there are many types of massage therapy out there and not every person will need the same treatment. The three most common types of massage and their differences are listed below:
Deep-Tissue Massage
Deep-tissue massage utilizes slow strokes, direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles with the fingers, thumbs or elbows. Deep-tissue massage works deeply into the muscles and connective tissue to release chronic aches and pains; its purpose is to reach the fascia beneath the surface muscles. Practitioners must have a thorough understanding of the human body and have been trained to administer deep-tissue massage, as injury can occur if the technique is not performed properly.
Swedish Massage
Generally regarded as the most common form of massage, Swedish massage involves a combination of five basic strokes and concentrates on the muscles and connective tissues of the body for improved circulation, relaxation, pain relief, and overall health maintenance and well-being. Swedish massage is also one of the less demanding techniques for massage therapists to practice as it usually does not involve deep-tissue work.
